| ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Lead the software development for man-portable optical communications devices and rangefinders that include a wide variety of integration challenges including integrated display optics, battery power management and state of charge indication, touch screen user interface design and implementation, controls for stepper and linear feedback servos on zoom optics, DACs, and ADCs, and communications coding structures and USB. The software design will include the design of embedded application in assembly, C-code, and VHDL and FPGA firmware design. Design of peer-to-peer networks operating over a Linux PC is a plus. He software tasks include the integration of a streaming serial communications interface, e.g. USB to an all optical communications system (optical modem) and all internal elements and interfaces. These include processors, FPGAs, DACs, ADCs, USB, SD card flash, touch screen GUI, OLED viewfinder display, internal batteries and management, lasers and power control, encoding and decoding of serial optical bytes, along with optical scanning/tracking control. Embedded processor design and architectural trades is a plus, including analysis of throughput, memory reserves, power issues, and coding structures. Must be able to work in the electro-optics lab. | ||||||

| EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: PhD or MS in SW Engineering with an emphasis in embedded design and signal processing. Seven years experience with a PhD degree and ten years experience with an MS degree in industrial design. Proficient with C, C++, assembler programming, and high performance processors. Capable of Windows-based test and development applications. Good hands-on experience with electronics and laboratory equipment. US Citizenship required. | ||||||
